The tutors and coaches at Mind Matters work in close collaboration with our clinicians. This allows us to assess the specific needs of every client and to match them with the tutor or coach who best fits their educational, developmental, and emotional needs.

 

Talia SommaM.Ed.

Orton-Gillingham Tutor & Educational Tutor

Talia SommaM.Ed. currently works as a Middle School Math Teacher at The Gateway School, where she specializes in supporting students with language-based learning disabilities. With a Master’s in Moderate Disabilities from Lesley University and certifications including Orton-Gillingham Associate Level training, Talia is committed to making reading and math accessible and engaging for all learners. Prior to Gateway, she served as Head Academic Coordinator at Academics West, leading teams of teachers and providing targeted reading intervention for students in grades K–12. Her approach blends structured, multisensory instruction with a deep understanding of neurodiverse learning profiles. Talia’s passion lies in helping students build strong foundations in reading and mathematics while developing the confidence to succeed academically and beyond.


 

Taylor Koonce, MHC-LP

Executive Functioning Tutor & Educational Tutor

Taylor Koonce, MHC-LP is a limited permit Mental Health Counselor in New York. She received her Master’s in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University, along with a certificate in LGBT Health, Education, and Social Services. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy with a concentration in Cognitive Science from Marist College. Taylor specializes in helping youth improve executive functioning, organizational skills, and self-efficacy. She currently works as a counselor at Therapy Brooklyn, where she focuses on supporting clients with intersecting marginalized identities and neurodiversity.


 

Devin Donahue

Executive Functioning Tutor & Educational Tutor

Devin Donahue is currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, with a focus on Health and Mental Health. She is expected to graduate in May 2026. Previously, Devin attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. For the past two years, Devin has worked in NYC public schools where she has gained experience providing one-on-one counseling to high school students, and creating tailored treatment plans to address emotional, academic, and personal challenges. She has also led small group counseling sessions to help students develop self-regulation, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Devin has also participated in interdisciplinary team meetings to design academic support strategies and enhance holistic care approaches for students.


 

Melissa Levy, M.A.

Orton-Gillingham Tutor & Educational Tutor

Melissa Levy, M.A., A/OGA, is an Orton Gillingham Academy practitioner at the Associate level. She is a New York State licensed ENL teacher with certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for grades K-12. She earned her MA in TESOL at CUNY Hunter College and an MA from UC Berkeley with a specialty in Slavic Languages and Literature. She completed her BA at Wesleyan University. Melissa has taught English to a wide variety of students ranging from Kindergarten through college age. She has supported learners with various goals and challenges at public, charter, and independent schools in New York City over the past 20 years.


 

Kristofer Thomas

Educational Tutor

Kristofer Thomas is a writer, editor, and educator working in New York City. He holds a BA in Theater and German from Barnard College of Columbia University. He currently teaches preschool in Tribeca and works as a tutor for students with a wide variety of academic and socioemotional needs. His prior professional experience includes working as a Writer’s Assistant at NBC Universal, copywriting for a commercial video production house, and teaching Theater at Harlem School of the Arts.


 

Maya Wofsy

Executive Functioning Coach & Holistic Health Coach

Maya Wofsy is a certified Executive Function Coach and Health and Wellness Coach. She was born and raised in Westport, CT and attended Tulane University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness. At Tulane, Maya developed and ran a university sponsored program to help students become proficient in both executive functioning and self-advocacy skills. In her own wellness focused practice, Maya has coached incoming and matriculating college students as well as post-graduates to enhance their executive functioning skills and overall well-being.
